Embeddings of the Heisenberg group in L^p, following Cheeger and Kleiner
Pierre Pansu

In 1996, Semmes has observed that the Heisenberg group did not embed quasi-isometrically into a Hilbert space. One may, rather easily, replace a Hilbert space by L^p, p>1, in the statement above. But the very recent proof by Cheeger and Kleiner of the non existence of a quasi-isometric embedding in L^1 has required new ideas. We will try to provide an overview of these ideas, and also the relationship between this result and methods used in algorithmic.
