Contracting self-similar groups
Volodymyr Nekrashevych
Contracting self-similar groups appear naturally in the study of
expanding (partial) self-coverings of topological spaces and orbispaces.
We will discuss properties and examples of such groups and describe the
construction of the limit space of a contracting group. The limit space
can be defined as the boundary of a Gromov hyperbolic graph naturally
associated with the self-similar group and is homeomorphic to the Julia
set of the expanding self-covering. We will also describe an axiomatic
description of the limit space and show a natural orbispace structure on it.
