Hyperbolic 3-manifolds and the curve complex
Brian Bowditch

We give a brief outline of some recent results regarding hyperbolic 3-manifolds. One aim has been to give a streamlined proof of the ending lamination conjecture by Minsky, Brock and Canary. These techniques also feed back to give new insights into the curve complex and the coarse geometry of Teichmuller space.
